 Welcome to my LiveJournal

Dress of all ages is one of many subjects that I am interested in. Natural Dyes is another, so is Jane Austens work, Re-enactment, Medieval dress accessories and many other things.

Thougth this would be a great opportunity to share ideas and reflections on some of my projects, so please feel free to comment on all the following posts :-)

I´m no longer updating my livejournal but watch my blog instead:

My corsets/bodies.
I made my own version of the effigycorset. I drew a patten from what I could see on pictures of the corset, and had a friend draw the lines on a rough toile fitted on me with pins. It is my first attempt ever on corsetmaking. And I was very surprised when it turned out so well. It fits perfectly!!
It´s made of three layers of cotton. I have machine stiched the channels, but every thing else is handstiched. I used cableties as stiffeners.
I considered this to be a testmodel. Therefore the cheap and incorrect materials.

Farthingale made from Alseccas pattern, bumrole and forepart.
I have been unable to find black brocade with the right pattern in the weave. Therefore this will have to do, until the right fabric shows up. It´s burned cottonvelvet, with a pattern that comes close enough to the original, to give the right effect. And for the moment it will have to do.

Some pictures of the skirt and forepart. The bodice will cover the ties in front.

Yesterday I made a pair of linen hose, to go with my 1470´s outfit.
As I mostly reenact in the summer, they will do very well. But a pair of wollen hose will follow.
I made a patten that has no stiching under the foot, I surposed that would be uncomfortable, when they are made of linen. Since linenseems can be quite hard.
The hose reach up above the knees.
Later I will make some garthers. I just have to decide whether I should weave some or make some in leather.

Og så lige et lille pausefoto indtil resten af dragtbillederne kommer på ;-)

Billedet har jeg taget på en gåtur langs moesgårdstranden på en frostklar solskinsdag i Januar.

The smock is made in a very light linnen, and I have handstitched it.
On the original painting, the collar is decorated with blackwork. I have chosen not to do so on this version, but might do it later. Blackwork is so beautiful!!

One of my current projects is to reconstruct the dress, worn by Mary Sidney on this painting by Hans Eworth from c. 1555.
So far I have made "A pair of bodies" that is similar to the effigy corset. A smock, a bumrole, a farthingale, a skirt in black velvet, a forepart and I´m currently working on the bodice. So I still have the forsleeves, the partlet and the headwear and all the accessories left.
